The newest means of communication
for a distributed audience is webcasting. In a webcast we combine video,
audio, presentation graphics, a chat function, and reporting tools to
give the audience and presenters a completely interactive experience.
There are two types of webcast,
Live or On-demand
Live Webcasting
Typically, the event is produced
as if it was going to be broadcast in a traditional satellite or cable
network television environment. This might include a multi-camera setup
in either a studio or before a live audience. The video is usually transported
mix minus lower thirds and the presentation graphics are used to identify
the speakers.
Once the video is produced,
we can capture the signal and transport it to the internet in a few different
ways. We can encode onsite, via satellite, Vyvyx, or direct IP connection.
We encode the streams real-time and direct them to an IP address where
your audience can view the event. Presentation graphics are prepared before
the event and are manually advanced by a technician who is viewing the
broadcast. Chat or email functions can be enabled to allow presenters
the ability to field questions from the audience.
Because your viewers may have
different internet connections, we will usually encode the streams in
multiple bit rates (56K, 100K,
300K). The different speeds allow users to have the best experience that
their connection can give them.
Costs can vary significantly
for live webcasts so please call for a quote. Factors which influence
costs are: Cost of Video Production (cameras, lighting, engineering, set,
and crew), Cost of Transport (encoder on-site, satellite, Vyvyx, IP, Telephony)
Cost of Hosting Event (bandwidth, graphics, features, reporting).
On-Demand Webcasting
On-demand webcasting differs
from live webcasting because it uses an archived program. Any video program
can be archived for On-demand viewing at later times. We can archive video
from almost any source including: Digital Beta, Beta SP, DVD, VHS, DV,
DVCAM, Hi8, MiniDV, and electronic files (AVI, Quicktime, MPG). Once a
program has been archived users can view it whenever they have the time
to do so. This gives enormous flexibility for viewers of your online content.
The videos on this site are examples of On-demand webcasts. On-demand
videos do not take advantage of chat or email features because the event
already happened.
